Ancient Rome

The Roman Empire:

From Yuviverse,  Knowledge is social power.

An empire is made up of many different countries ruled by one person-the emperor. Rome in Italy was once the heart of a great empire. It became rich and powerful, ruling more than 50 million people around the world. For a long time, Rome was ruled by kings. It became a republic – a state without a king- after many years of fighting. The Roman Empire was the post-Republican period of ancient Rome. An army general called Octavian took power and became the first Roman emperor, bringing peace to Rome. Octavian also is known as Emperor Augustus Caesar became the first Roman emperor in 27 BC.

In the Roman Era, the Romans invented many things useful to mankind today such as; concrete, arches, aqueducts, etc. Do you know what are aqueducts?

An aqueduct is an artificial channel for conveying water, typically in the form of a bridge across a valley or other gap. The Romans had also built the first-ever “shopping mall”.  It was called Trajan’s Market.

There were 150 shops on five levels, as well as a large main hall.

The Roman Law: Everyone in Rome had to obey the laws, which were very strict. If someone was accused of a serious crime, they attended court to see if they were innocent or guilty. The laws included in “The Roman Laws” were written by Justinian.

The Romans worshipped many gods. The emperor also offered sacrifices to the gods who protected Rome. Ordinary Romans made offerings of food, wine and incense. Some of these gods are “Jupiter, king of the Gods”, “Mars, God of war”, “Neptune, God of the sea”, etc.

Hello! Did you find this blog exciting, if you did then get ready to answer some questions:

1.    Can you tell the first five Roman Emperors?

2.    Can you tell the other Roman inventions other than the ones mentioned in the blog?

3.    Name some God’s and Goddess’s that are worshiped by The Romans?
